2011  Annual Reunion Planning
2011 Reunion Survey
Happy New Year

Well it is that time of year again and we are starting to plan for our 2011 CMA  Annual Reunion.  In case you do not know the reunion will be held in Myrtle Beach SC at the Sand Dunes Resort Hotel, 214 70th Ave North, Myrtle Beach SC 29572.  The dates are May 13, 14, 15, 2011. That is Friday, Saturday, & Sunday.  Because the hotel offers us the same rate for 3 days before and 3 days after those dates we will be planning some Early Bird activities.  Randy has worked hard on a survey for this reunion, he is also working with the hotel to get the best prices on show and dinner options for the weekend.  From what I understand the hotel has given us the same rate as last year ($59.00 plus Tax) and have allowed us to move the reunion to a more desirable and warmer date, which at your request is after "Tax Day", we have also avoided any holidays so our reunion does not interfere with your family time.  The survey that we have attached will  give you the opportunity to have your preferences know.  Please participate in this survey so that we can plan the best reunion possible and give you and your guest the best bang for your buck.  This survey will only be open for few weeks so we can firm up our plans and take advantage of early pricing.  Please click on the link below to go to the survey. Don't forget, do it now before the survey closes on February 15, 2011. You must be signed into the CMA Secure Webpages to Vote in this survey.  If you have any questions please contact Randy Jennings at 843-450-5800.

We also plan to have at least 1 regional reunion in 2011.  If any of you would like to have a 1 day regional reunion in your area and would be willing to help us with scheduling and planning the reunion please contact me or Randy Jennings so that we can get that planning underway soon.  We have had a lot of fun reuniting with our CMA cadets in the past 2 years and look forward to continuing that in the future.  Give us your ideas.

We are planning a lot of new ideas for the 2011 CMA Annual Reunion but we need your help in choosing the right ones, 1st of all you will be able to register and purchase your reunion tickets, dinners and show tickets on-line at our secure website an pay for them either by check or by credit card. This will automate our reunion planning and allow you the convenience of paying on-line.  It will automatically put your name on the attendees list so that any member logging into the website will be able to tell which of his friends will be attending.  Our Treasurer Ed Dunn will get weekly updates and direct deposit receipts whenever you pay for your tickets, and we will be able to automatically send a weekly report to the hotel so that they are aware of our dinner & show status.  You will still have to make your  room reservations with the hotel reservation system by calling 800-599-9872, give the operator your promo code CMAAA or tell her you are with the Carolina Military Academy Alumni Association group.

Here are our thoughts and possible new things to do during the reunion; (prices are estimates)

1. New venue for "Legends In Concert" at "Broadway At The Beach" ($27)

2. New restaurant at "Broadway at the Beach", "RIOZ" (All You Can Eat)Brazilian Steakhouse ($29)

3. Early Bird Tour of Brookgreen Garden (Friday or Saturday), (group of 15) $ 9 pp -  box lunch add $10

4. Early Bird - La Belle Amie Vineyard - Music - Tour - Wine Tasting (8 different) wines $ 5.50 pp ** (Friday or
Saturday 1:00 PM- 4 PM) (group of 15).

5. Early Bird Lunch (Friday) at Gordan Biersch Brew Pub at Market Commons with Shopping Afterwards.

6. Early Bird Lunch (Friday) at River City Cafe, Lazy River Swim, Day At The Beach or By The Pool (On Premise)

The Early Bird Items do not have to be couples only but must be 15 or more persons for the group price, guys can go to lunch and girls could go to Brookgreen or La Belle Amie Vineyard.  All Early Bird Items are Pay As You Go - Dinner & Show would be purchased through the reunion website.  The association would help you plan group tours but individuals would be responsible for any cancellation or no-show fees.  We will know more after the survey is complete if there is enough interest in booking any group tours I will put out a request via email to everyone.

Keep in mind that our reunion is basically a 2 night 3 day ( Friday Nite, Saturday Nite, and Sunday Departure) we want everyone to have a good time and will do our best to keep things on schedule so that you can have some free time. .  We are having these Early Bird events to accommodate those who extend their stays but your attendance at these events are your choice.  Would you like to extend the event to 3 nights. Let us know your thoughts.

I have placed some links below so that you can check out the website's of some of your choices in the survey.

Just a few words about some of our cadets;

Our sincere condolences to the family of faculty member Joe Creech on the loss of his lovely wife Mary Ellen, both Joe & Mary Ellen joined us at the Maxton Reunion and it was so good to see both of them. Joe, please accept the sympathy of our membership for your loss.

Tommy Le Macks our 1964 year cadet from Charleston SC has been having some health problems and we want to wish him a speedy recovery. Tommy recently had a heart attack and he is also undergoing doctors care for prostate problems.  I hope to have more information from Tommy after some doctors consultations coming up soon.  God speed Tommy we are all praying for you.

I tried unsuccessfully to reach Salem Van Every our cadet who recently relocated from the coast of SC to the mountains of NC and whom has had recent health problems, Salem we hope that you are recovering and will be able to join us at one of our future reunions.  Give us a shout out and let us know how your recovery is coming along.

I know from attendance at a recent Birthday Party that our friend Fred Majors CMA 62/63 is fully recovered from his health problems and is back to his old habits of afternoon sunning and beer drinking on the deck of his great restaurant in Georgetown SC called the "Goat Island Grill", word is he will begin having Jazz Music in his upstairs lounge in the near future, Let us know how that is going Fred, we look forward to seeing you soon.

John (MB Mayor) Rhodes is back hard at work for the City Of Myrtle Beach after another successful "Beach Ball Classic" and is looking forward to some warmer city events like the Sun Fun Parade and the Miss Bikini Wahine Pageant. John is fond of those contact sports.

I would like to welcome some of our newly found cadets to the website, David Gurley of Whiteville NC (1963/64), Kenneth Kline of Springfield VA (outside DC) (1967/68/69/70) and Ray Renfrow of Gadsden AL (1963/64).  We hope that you visit our website often and join us soon at one of our reunions. Please visit their Cadet Profiles and welcome them aboard.

I plan to use this space in the newsletter to keep everyone up-to-date with our cadets but I can not do it without news and emails from you.  If you have information about the health or life changes of any of our cadets or faculty or family members please let me hear from you at rjennings2553@gmail.com
